Texas Longhorn Football Fever has Reached the Borderland

El Paso, Texas - High temperatures, sweating, and the chills, are among the many symptoms Texas Longhorn football fans have been experiencing late this Summer. But, the epidemic is nearly over. Thursday, September 1, the Texas Exes El Paso Chapter will host its annual kick-off party to celebrate the beginning of the much anticipated Longhorn football season.

This year, in partnership with the Longhorn Foundation, the group welcomes former Defensive Tackles/Special Teams Coordinator Coach Mike “Tolly” Tolleson. In 13 seasons alongside Head Coach Mack Brown, Tolleson helped the Longhorns accomplish winning a National Championship in 2005, finishing No. 3 in 2008 and another National Championship appearance against Alabama in 2010. Among his experience in 37 years in coaching, Tolleson served as an assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at UTEP in 1992.

“We are excited to welcome coach Tolleson back to El Paso,” George White, president of the local chapter of the UT ex students association, said. “We invite all ex students, Longhorn fans and family in our area to our event to celebrate and enjoy hearing about the Longhorns’ preparations for the 2011 season.”

One of the major events of the year for the El Paso Texas Exes, the kick-off is a significant fundraiser for scholarships to local high school graduating seniors attending UT next Fall.
